Twins revisited

After some recent discussion about twinship with other biologists and non-biologists, it seems the probability of our being half-identical, or sharing 75% of our genes, is probably too low to be realistic. According to one friend, half-identical twins have yet to be actually validated (in humans). Most people (except for Mae) seem to think that Mae and I look too similar to be fraternal, yet that is what we have been told all of our lives. Here are some other options:

1. Janet's "identical genetic content, differing microclimates in the womb" hypothesis

2. Fraternal twins share, on average, 50% of the genes. Because there is a normal distribution throughout the whole population of the percent of genes shared by two fraternal twins with a mean of 50%, its possible that we are outliers (in the tail of the distribution) and happened by chance to share 60 or 65% or more of our genetic identity.
