House Project - Danish Wiinblaad Tiles

We have been busy with house projects, and today we did my favorite one so far.  Several years ago, Chris's grandmother gave us a set of 12 Danish tiles that they bought in the 1960's in Denmark, and that they had hanging in their kitchen when Chris was growing up.  The tiles remind me of the Moomintroll books, the illustrations are full of character and detail, and they illustrate a relationship that blossoms over 12 months.  Each month has an illustration of a part of a relationship and a name (shown in the photos below).  We have been saving them in a box to put up when we had our own house, and today we finally put them up!

Chris got some plate display thingys, and I took this picture to show the tiles all wrapped up in bubblewrap and ready to finally get out!

We were so excited to finally get them out so we started setting them up on the kitchen counter.

Mae visited last month and had the brilliant idea to put the plates on our huge built in that we are still trying to figure out what to do with.

We have been trying to figure out what to put on the shelves, here is an example of our Hawaii map picture, Russian Dolls and Swedish Dala Horse.  So now we have a Danish-Russian-Swedish theme for our shelves.

Here are all the plates on the top shelf of our built in.  The only problem is that it is hard to get close enough to see the details.  I am going to solve this problem by posting a photo of a plate each month on the blog, to correspond with the month of the plate.
