Requiem for a tree

The ancient white oak in our front yard is gone. It died over the summer of a combination of insect infestation and drought. It took about 2 1/2 days with a large crew, a giant crane and other equipment to remove it. There was a fairly large rotten area near the bottom, and a large limb had fallen last week, so it's good thing we got it done. We used to pose for family pictures in front of the trunk, so I'll see if I can find some.

Wow, it does look pretty sad in that first photo. It's really too bad about the drought in Atlanta.
